The position of adjectives
Adjectives usually appear immediately before a noun.
Examples:
- A large table.
- Daniel’s blue book.
- Her new clothes.
- The thirsty horse.
These are called attributive adjectives. They tell us about the attributes of something.
Sometimes adjectives are linked to a noun or pronoun by a verb.
Examples:
- The sky is blue.
- The girl looked unhappy.
- She is lonely.
These are called predicative adjectives. The predicate of a sentence is everything that is not the subject.
Occasionally adjective appear immediately after the noun.
Examples:
- There was nothing new.
- The people invited to the party.
- A player chosen for the team.
These are called post-modifier adjectives. They are fairly unusual.
