Reflexive pronouns

A reflexive pronoun refers back to a noun or pronoun elsewhere in a sentence.

 Examples:

  • I will tell you about myself.
  • He hurt himself.
  • We cook for ourselves.

Sometimes a reflexive pronoun is used for emphasis.

Examples:

  • The actor himself performed all the stunts.
  • I myself heard the explosion.
  • The boys themselves built the model.

Sometimes reflexive pronouns are used to indicate that someone has done something without help from someone else.

Examples:

  • The boys built the model themselves.
  • I cooked dinner myself.
