Indefinite pronouns

Indefinite pronouns refer to people or things without being specific who or what they are.

Singularanother, anybody, anyone, anything, each, either, everybody, everyone, everything, little, much, neither, nobody, no one, nothing, one, other, somebody, someone, something
Pluralboth, few, many, others, several
Singular or pluralall, any, more, most, none, some

Examples:

  • We will start the meeting when everybody has arrived.
  • Everything was lost in the fire.
  • Nobody answered the phone.
  • I like strawberries. I have eaten several this afternoon.
  • She asked twenty people but most refused.

Note: Many indefinite pronouns can also be used as adjectives.

Examples:

  • I would like another piece of cake.
  • Most people like apples.
