“Exceedingly” or “Excessively”?

Exceedingly and excessively are both adverbs. They have related but different meanings:

  • Exceedingly means “very”. For example: “She wrote an exceedingly good essay”.
  • Excessively means something like “too”: “The children were excessively noisy”.
