Indefinite pronouns
Indefinite pronouns refer to people or things without being specific who or what they are.
Singular | another, anybody, anyone, anything, each, either, everybody, everyone, everything, little, much, neither, nobody, no one, nothing, one, other, somebody, someone, something |
Plural | both, few, many, others, several |
Singular or plural | all, any, more, most, none, some |
Examples:
- We will start the meeting when everybody has arrived.
- Everything was lost in the fire.
- Nobody answered the phone.
- I like strawberries. I have eaten several this afternoon.
- She asked twenty people but most refused.
Note: Many indefinite pronouns can also be used as adjectives.
Examples:
- I would like another piece of cake.
- Most people like apples.
